Jewelry is for years and years. It should be
maintained with care so that it can be passed to your next generation and
stored as an antique piece for longer years. Jewelry should be treated with
love and care. It should be treasured and enjoyed every time you put it on. The
following are basic guidelines for keeping you and your jewelry happy.
Basic
Care
- Jewelery is
meant to be worn, seen and enjoyed - just do so with care!
- It needs to
be stored in special pouch/box meant for jewelery, instead of storing it
as you like
- Keep your
jewels aside before you mow the lawn, haul rocks or wash dishes.
- It is
probably allergic to perfumes, lotions and hairsprays so slather yourself
up in areas where your jewellery will not touch it.
- While
travelling, don’t put your jewels in the bottom of your handbag or bag,
rather it can be carried with its pouch
- Once you
removed your valuable jewellery, wipe each piece with a clean soft cloth
to remove oils and perspiration.
- Never
expose jewellery to chlorine swimming pools or hot tubs.
- Remove all jewellery before showering or cleaning. Soap can cause a film to form, making it appear dull and dingy.
Care
on Diamond Jewellery:
- Don't store
your diamond jewelry next to other jewelry pieces as this can cause
scratches.
- A fabric-lined
jewelry case with separate compartments is Ideal for diamond jewelry
- Regularly
inspect your diamond jewelry to make sure the setting is secure.
- Handle your
diamond sparingly, as your fingers provide enough oil from your skin to
alter the way your diamond look
- Don't use
harmful solutions. Chlorine or abrasives should never be used when
cleaning diamonds, especially those set in jewelry.
Care
on Gold Jewellery:
- Mix a
squeeze of mild dish detergent with warm water in a bowl. Put the gold
item into the soap mixture and let sit for a few minutes. Use a soft
toothbrush to gently scrub the jewelry.
- Gold
jewelry of any karat can be cleaned lightly using a soft cloth.
Care
on Pearl Jewellery
- Your pearls
should be the last piece of jewelry you put on and the first thing you
take off.
- Wipe them
with a clean, soft cloth or chamois.
- Never clean
with commercial jewelry cleanser or put in an ultra-sonic cleaner.
- Do not
steam clean.
- Pearls can
be washed in water with a mild, non-detergent soap and cleaned with a soft
cloth. Lay them on a clean towel to dry.
- Do not wear
strand while it is wet as the silk or string can stretch. Likewise, do not
hang them to dry.
- Gemstones
are quite literally hard as rock, buy they can be damaged from careless
handling and negligence.
- Never
remove rings by pulling on the stone: that habit may result in a loose,
then lost, gem
- Rings in particular
tend to collect dust and soap behind the gem, especially if worn often.
You need to clean them regularly to let the light in so your gems can
shine
- Organic
gems like pearls, coral, and amber should only be wiped clean with moist
cloth. Due to their organic nature, these gems are both soft and porous.
- Opals also
require special care. Never use an ultrasonic, never use ammonia, and
avoid heat and strong light
Always be careful when you wear your jewels as well
as when you remove it. Atlast you need to bear if it gets damaged. Try to
handle with almost care when it’s so fragile if not also.
