Diamonds
are rare, beautiful and one of the most widely used gemstones to make
jewellery. However, it’s difficult to spot a fake diamond from the real one if
you are not a trained gemologist with a fancy equipment.
No
worries, Here is the checklist that will help you to buy the real diamond.
Colour: Most real diamonds, when brought to
light or closer to your eyes will produce a rainbow of colors outside, whereas
the fake one might produce colours inside or nothing at all.
Weight: Hold the diamond in your hand and
check if it weighs exceptionally heavy with respect to its size because a real
diamond’s weight is lesser than fake ones since they have lower density.
Perfection: Have a professional to check if the diamond is genuine because any natural
diamond will have minute flaws and inclusions, whereas a lab created fake gem
can be perfectly flawless.
Transparency: Turn loose diamonds upside down over a
newspaper or any piece of paper with typed text because if it is a real
diamond, you will ideally not be able to read the text through the stone. Diamonds
should not be completely transparent and the fake ones do not have the proper
light refraction properties.
Fog Test: Diamonds are said to disperse heat
quickly and a light puff of breath on the gemstone should fog it up. However,
this fog will vanish almost instantly if your diamond is authentic. If it’s a
fake one, the stone may stay fogged for 2 seconds or longer.
So,
now that you have these small tips in your pocket, don’t forget to check a
diamond before buying it. Always buy diamond from the reliable seller with rich
years of experience in jewelry industry
After
all, diamonds are forever; only if they are real.
